The first response from Eric

Today I received an email thread intended for Eric the author. Apparently he is on another book tour.

From: Gloria
Subject: Eric Weiner concerned about possible late arrival
Carol,

What should I tell Eric?  I think I'm up and about later than you might be, perhaps he could call us if he is late.

To: Gloria
Gloria,
Okay, I will. I'm sorry about my late arrival...it was unavoidable, given my book tour schedule and the West Coast flights. What should I do if my flight is delayed and get in after, say, 11:00 p.m.? I'd hate to disturb Carol. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Eric

Eric,

Carol Beebe will stay up for your arrival.  You should ring the front door bell.

I just wanted to explain that the locks for the downstairs where you will be staying are very confusing, so Carol likes to show each guest how to use the keys.   That's why I was concerned about someone being there when you got there.

Looking forward to your visit with us.

Only difference is this time when I replied and CC'ed the author, he replied with a "Thank you." Nice to know the past emails I've forwarded went somewhere.

Thai Researchers

It has been some time since I have posted a run-in with a rogue email destined for some E first name or Weiner last name. Some a few weeks back were not interesting so I let them fall into the Trash.

Today, however, I was surprised to find an email destined for my namesake author friend. The other Eric Weiner, I must say, who never sends any reply, not even a 'thank you,' when I forward him his own mail that came to me by mistake. But I'll continue to do it because I'm a nice guy.

This message comes from Sharyn. It was a reply with several emails in the chain about a very many things. But the exciting stuff seems to be happening now:

Any word back from your friend at AP in Bangkok? The journalist's investigative skills is exactly the right thing for tracking down Ally's birthmother's status. I am going to email the two friends you refer to in this mail now, I realize they may just refer me on so will let you know. Sharyn

Geography of unintentional email recipients

Hum... could the author of Geography of Bliss be up to a new book or is this a strange coincidence???

How are things going? How is Sonya doing at school ? Is the book progressing and is your researcher at work yet ? My love to all. Every thing is quiet down here and fortunately there are no severe storms to contend with.

Happy New Year. Let it be sweet and fruitful.

Working on a Peace Corps story for The New York Times Magazine

Eric,

Glad you hooked up with Charlie. As I look over his email below, I now remember that he can sometimes overwhelm with info way beyond (at least in my case) my level of comprehension. I hope what you got out of him was helpful and not a waste of your time.

CLN Speaking Date

Dear Eric,
Well at last the CLN board met on Thursday and we are ready to offer you a choice of dates to come and talk to us. You have your choice of either Sunday, May 31st or Sunday, June 7th. It was decided that the venue would be in a private home---one with a nice garden so we could spread out, weather permitting. The time will be 2;00 to 4;00 with light refreshments. We invite you to bring your books for signing and purchase and, oh yes, your wife if she is so inclined.
Question; Are your trips to the kitchen for creative or noshing purposes?? If the former--bring favorite recipes.
I'll look forward to hearing from you.
Blissfully,
Lois

Nice Piece in the Post

We get to read the Post, a real paper, when we're staying out in Rappahannock County. Was pleased to see your byline.

Thanks for pointing out the vicious cycle.

Say hi to Sharon. Retirement from Knight looms in a month.

Eric Weiner on the KPAM Portland Travel Show

Hi, Eric:

I hope you had a great holiday. We spent most of ours here in Portland buried beneath an unexpected whirl of snow, which is very unusual for this area. I think Al Gore's right.

We're still very interested in interviewing you for our weekend travel show on "The Geography of Bliss." As mentioned, we'd need you on the phone for only about ten minutes, and the interview would be recorded for later broadcast. And as of now, I have time available next Tuesday or Wednesday (January 6th or 7th) around 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. Pacific.

If that time frame doesn't work for you, please drop me a line and let me know what your schedule looks like. In any event, I hope we get a chance to speak soon.

Thanks,

Rod _______

Help

Hi Eric,
During our phone conversation several weeks ago, you said that if I encountered any problems with your agent I should ask for your help.Well my producer Lori _____ has been trying now for several weeks to get a response from your agents.I understand that there has been a change but I am getting quite anxious to get an answer. Two weeks ago I spent six days in Iceland where I was able to spend some time with Helmar and Jared, both of whom impressed me as good potential film subjects.Incidentally I totally agree with you about Iceland.A truly unique place and the people are wonderful.I had a terrific time.I am going to be in England next week on personal business but also plan to visit Slough, if only to satisfy my curiousity.I should also add that my Iceland experience increased my confidence and committment to the project.I hope we can work something out. Best regards.

Book interview

1st Email:

I pitched your book a while back and it turns out they want me to run a Q & A with you this SATURDAY!!!

I have about five or six questions I wanted you to answer based on your book -- which is great btw!

I need these by Thursday noonish -- gulp -- are you available? What's your number?

Cheers,
Karen

My response:

Karen,

I think you have the wrong Eric. This is Eric Weiner from San Francisco and unfortunately my masterpiece has not been written nor thought up yet :)

~Eric

2nd Email:

That's very funny...
For what it's worth your namesake in Washington has written a great book called the Geography of Bliss which will be published in January.
Sorry for the electronic interruption.

My response: No worries about the interruption. Its always interesting to see what others have done with my name :)
